The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Oakland Raiders, 13-16. The Chiefs move to 6-9 on the season while the Oakland Raiders improve to 8-7.
In this weekly article, Pro Football Spotlight will bring you the blocking performances of the recent Chiefs, as well as some additional data. For example: Did you know that Anthony Becht has gotten the majority of the snaps at tight end for the 3rd week in a row?
Let’s take a look at those blocking grades…

| Did the lineman get the job done or not? These grades are good for understanding value for a team and not necessarily for comparing across teams. A game in the mid 80s to 90% is a decent score. | How often did the offensive lineman dominate the block or how often did he get dominated? These scores are good for comparing across teams and finding the most dominant lineman in the league. | Anything over zero is a good score. The more over zero the more the lineman dominated the defender. Each lineman is scored a minus for being dominated, a zero for a draw, or a plus for dominating the defender. | The number of success over failures for the lineman when blocking linebackers and safeties on the second level. The lineman must be athletic to accomplish a high second level score. |
Run Blocking Notes:
- At 8:02 in the 1st quarter, McClain has a nice lead block to the right of the formation.
- LeRon McClain has a nice day blocking this week. He ends the game with an 85% assignment grade…much improved from the last couple of weeks. You can see McClain, below. He is the lead block on a play and has just engaged the defender. The Offensive line has done a nice job, also.

- AT 4:12 in the 2nd quarter, McClain stays with his block and finally clears the defender. Just an example of a play that requires a little extra motor to get the job done and LeRon appeared to be up to the task.
- If you read the O-Line breakdown then you might have seen the pic, below. You can see Anthony Becht in the middle of the formation engaging in a trap block from the wing position.

- Leonard Pope ends his day with a 75% run assignment grade and a +1 dominance score. He was able to get some movement on some of his blocks, this week.

A game in the 90% is a good score for pass blocking. | How often did the offensive lineman dominate the block or how often did he get dominated? Each lineman is scored a minus for being dominated, a zero for a draw, or a plus for dominating the block. | How often did the offensive lineman give up pressure on the quarterback? Every once and a while a lineman can do his job but give up pressure on the QB. This stat will help glean more info from the line grades. | How often did the offensive coordinator provide help for a tough defender or a struggling lineman. Yea, two lineman ended up with the same grade…but how much help did either of them get? |
Pass Blocking Notes:
- The tight ends and backs do a nice job, for the most part, pass blocking this week.
- Anthony Becht, who normally does a decent job pass blocking, was beaten twice in the game against the Raiders. He ends his day with a 50% pass assignment grade.
