The Oakland Raiders lost to the Seattle Seahawks 6-20 this past Friday evening. Even though Oakland lost, the offensive line had a better day. But what about those tight ends and fullbacks? In this post, you will find a film breakdown of every offensive play in the first half (we will break down the entire game when the regular season starts). After breaking the film down, you will find grades and notes that might help you understand what you might have missed in the trenches while the play was going on. This week, many of the starters were out and the coaches got to see some reps from some of the challengers. Let’s take a look at those scores…
Run Blocking Stats
Team Run Blocking
Did the lineman get the job done or not? These grades are good for understanding value for a team and not necessarily for comparing across teams. A game in the mid 80s to 90% is a decent score.
Power Blocking
How often did the offensive lineman dominate the block or how often did he get dominated? These scores are good for comparing across teams and finding the most dominant lineman in the league.
PB Score
Anything over zero is a good score. The more over zero the more the lineman dominated the defender. Each lineman is scored a minus for being dominated, a zero for a draw, or a plus for dominating the defender.
Team Run Blocking
The number of success over failures for the lineman when blocking linebackers and safeties on the second level. The lineman must be athletic to accomplish a high second level score.

Run Blocking Notes
- On the 4th offensive play for the Raiders, Marcel Reece lead blocks and ends up not blocking anyone. You have to find someone and block them…unless the back scores. Which he didn’t.
- Brandon Myers looked like a completely different blocker. Last week, he had a +2 power score but this week he didn’t dominate any blocks…and missed half of them.
- Myers has a problem this week on the backside and not letting his defender move him down the line of scrimmage and make the tackle. One instance of this is 2:38 left in the 1st quarter.
- On 3rd and 2 with 1:29 left in the 1st quarter, Marcel Reece misses a lead block. The hole was tight anyway and maybe Oakland wouldn’t have made the 1st. But this missed lead block made sure the Raiders didn’t make it.
Pass Blocking Stats
Team % Blocking
Did the lineman get the job done or not? These grades are good for understanding value for a team and not necessarily for comparing across teams. A game in the 90% is a good score for pass blocking.
Power Blocking
How often did the offensive lineman dominate the block or how often did he get dominated? Each lineman is scored a minus for being dominated, a zero for a draw, or a plus for dominating the block.
Pressures
How often did the offensive lineman give up pressure on the quarterback? Every once and a while a lineman can do his job but give up pressure on the QB. This stat will help glean more info from the line grades.
Combo Help
How often did the offensive coordinator provide help for a tough defender or a struggling lineman. Yea, two lineman ended up with the same grade, but how much help did either of them get?

Pass Blocking Notes
- Taiwan Jones has a rough time with a blitzing defender on one pass play. He likes to cut the defenders but sometimes that doesn’t work.
- Marcel Reece is not in or does not block a lot when the Raiders pass. But when he did in the Seattle game he got the job done.
- Taiwan Jones gets dominated on one passing play: -1 power score.
- Many times, the Raiders did a slide protection of some kind on play action passing. As long as the back can handle the outside linebacker or the defensive end, then these are easier blocks for the lineman and tight ends.
